Brief :
The Technical Authority for Water Resources was established according to Cabinet Resolution No. 244 of 1992 and operates under the supervision of the Minister of Water Resources, Irrigation and Electricity. He was entrusted with studies of water resources with all its components, developing plans for developing water resources, determining their precedents, supervising the permanent joint technical commission for Nile water and other international affairs related to water.

Goals
The Technical Authority for Water Resources has been established to achieve integration and coordination of studies for the exploitation of water resources with its various components, surface water resources from rivers, seasonal valleys and groundwater, and to do the following:
Preserving the national rights to shared waters, in terms of quantity and quality.
- Setting strategic plans to develop the national water resources.
- Developing strategic plans for water resources for cooperation with the Nile Basin countries and the countries that share ground basins and valley waters with Sudan.
- Setting strategic plans to develop shared water resources with other countries.
Follow-up projects to develop water resources with other countries.
Specialties:
Developing the general policy for water resources and their exploitation and submitting it to the National Water Resources Council for approval.
Developing a long-term national program for water resources and submitting it to the National Council for approval.
Preparing studies and research on water resources and development plans.
Supervising programs and agreements related to shared water resources with other countries, in coordination with the competent authorities.
Assessment of current and future water needs.
Chairing the Sudanese side in the Joint Permanent Technical Commission for Nile Waters.
Recommending reviewing and updating water legislation.
Any other powers and authorities necessary to perform his duties.
