About the management

The General Administration of Groundwater and Wadis represents the main pillar of rural development in Sudan. Where it works in the field of water resources from groundwater and valley water, which are the backbone of life in all the countryside and most of the cities of Sudan, and it is a specialized department that performs applied research in the field of groundwater resources and valley water. The history of the establishment of groundwater research and surface water research goes back to the establishment of the National Rural Water Authority in 1966, when the authority began at that time to develop groundwater and surface water resources, which was known as "irrigation water". This mechanism entrusted with the management and development of groundwater resources and valley water witnessed great developments. Within the National Rural Water Authority before its dissolution in 1994. Groundwater research and surface water research were the core around which all the Authority’s activities in the field of water resource development were centered. When the water sector was restructured in 1994 AD, the General Administration of Groundwater Research and the research part of the Surface Water Department (wadis) transferred to the Water Resources Agency of the Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources, and it was called the General Administration of Non-Nile Water and then the General Administration of Groundwater and Wadis in 2012.

The ministry contains

Human cadres:

An estimated number of engineers with high scientific degrees in the field of various water resources (including hydrology, hydrogeology, geophysics, hydrochemistry, civil engineering, surveying) and technical engineers for groundwater research and valley research, and they are cadres with specializations and scientific experiences in the field of water resources evaluation and development. Presence in all sectors of administration at the level of the various states of Sudan.
