The National Water Equipment Manufacturing Company Ltd. was established in implementation of Republican Decree 1155 in 1992, which stipulated merging the two national bodies for urban and rural water into a unified body called the National Water Authority, concerned with studies and planning for the drinking water sector, establishing state bodies to operate, maintain and manage drinking water facilities in each state, and establish three federal national companies in which the states and the sector participate The private company works on commercial basis to implement development projects and develop the water equipment industry
In the year 1998, the company was transformed into a public joint stock company based on the recommendation of the Supreme Committee for the disposal of public sector facilities and institutions and with the approval of the Ministry of Finance and National Economy, in order for its establishment to comply with what was stipulated in Resolution 1155 above Al-Zakar
After the secession of southern Sudan and the dissolution of the Public Authority for Water, its shares were redistributed as follows:
- Ministry of Finance and Economy 59%
- States 16%
- 25% of the shares are reserved for offering in the financial markets
